When I watched Maria Novaros earlier film Danzón a couple months ago, I initially gave it 4 stars. It has since grown and swelled in my heart to a full five star. Its a movie of pure tranquility that feels lived-in and authentic. The plot is simple but the characters are intricate, genuine and brimming with life. They are well-defined but unpredictable.
Such vitality seeps too into the characters of this film made 10 years later. The movies at its best in the interactions between the two female leads. It has the structure of a romantic thriller but is essentially a buddy movie.
