LaKeith Stanfield steals every scene that hes in while The Hatbox Ghost is one of the more menacing live-action Disney villains to be portrayed in quite some time. But Haunted Mansion is a PG horror comedy trapped in a PG-13 rating. Its only PG-13 because it revolves around the supernatural. The exaggerated comedy is annoying and anything remotely scary is ruined by relentless buffoonery.

As a longtime Disney enthusiast, I was highly skeptical (and very wary) about director Justin Simiens Haunted Mansion, the second film inspired by the classic and beloved theme park attraction. Everything about this project screamed pointless and dreadful, but I was pleasantly surprised at the inventive and fun finished product.

The original 2003 movie with Eddie Murphy is one I did enjoy just about, though it's been a long time since I watched it and I can only remember Murphy; no plot details or anything, so it's evidently quite a forgettable movie (or my memory isn't great, who's to say?).
This 2023 reboot holds similarities, in that sense. On paper, I like the cast so will likely remember them going forward. However, nothing else stands out in my thoughts... and I only finished viewing it moments ago, so that's not a positive sign. It holds a good cast list but it is disappointingly one that is wasted.
