Bernard Vaucher, nicknamed "Barney" and born in 1950 in Marseille, discovered mountaineering at the age of fifteen. At the beginning of the 1970s, he was one of the best climbers in Provence, alternating firsts in various massifs (Bavella, Dévoluy, Dolomites, Hoggar, Karakorum, Verdon and of course Calanques), with long-pitch routes in Yosemite, in the Dolomites or the Mont-Blanc massif. At the turn of the millennium, he developed a taste for writing.
