As with Douglas Fairbanks' final cinema effort in this role back in 1934, this is slightly more tame adventure outing for Errol Flynn as he portrays the infamous Spanish lover "Don Juan". Here accompanied by Alan Hale, he seduces his way into and out of trouble until he is eventually summoned to explain himself at the court of King Philip III and his Queen, Margaret. Viveca Lindfors plays the Queen who also falls for his charms and he is given a job at court just in time to stave off the deadly ambitions of the King's minister, ably portrayed by Robert Douglas. This is another example of glorious Technicolour, but the writing and score are quite a bit inferior to Flynn's other historical tours-de-forces. There also appear to be quite a few ...
